Exclusive Burro Creek Waterfall Lodge & Crab Feast

Authentic Alaska

For an adventure off the beaten track, you can’t go wrong with the Exclusive Burro Creek Waterfall Lodge & Crab Feast. Privately owned and accessible only by water and air, this 120-acre rustic resort sits just two miles across the water along Lynn Canal, America’s longest and deepest fjord. For over a hundred years it’s been one of Skagway’s well-kept secret hideaways.

Before you embark on your three hour excursion be sure to dress warmly and wear comfortable hiking boots. And don’t forget the camera to show the folks back home what they’re missing.

Your tour begins at the dock when you board an enclosed, custom-built vessel to cross Lynn Canal, America’s northernmost, ice-free deepwater port. When you arrive at the Burro Creek dock, you’ll be escorted to the lodge for a warm crepe cooked on the woodstove before you follow your guide to the wooden footbridge that boasts magnificent views of the harbor and fjord. Next, enjoy a quick stroll to the thunder and mist of Burro Creek’s most spectacular waterfall. Breathe in the clean, crisp air as you get your camera poised for this dazzling panorama of earth, water and sky.
From here, you can join the onsite naturalist for a moderate hike along trails leading to more waterfalls along the 1,400 feet of pipeline that feeds Burro Creek Lodge’s hydroelectric system (the lodge produces its own electricity and has a 35-year history of sustainability). Or,  you can return to the lodge to watch a demonstration of the hydro turbine generator, explore the grounds, take photographs, or listen to stories of Burro Creek’s colorful past. When the meal bell rings, everyone will gather back at the lodge, grab a drink of their choosing and roll up their sleeves for a sumptuous Dungeness crab & shrimp boil with andouille sausage, corn on the cob and potatoes all served with melted butter and oven fired bread. Deluxe wood stove-baked chocolate brownies served with marshmallows roasted over the campfire complete your rustic feast.
